AUDITIONS
On October 19, 2022, Counterweight Theatre Lab is holding auditions for The Night Ocean by A. Rhodes & G. Cogswell, which will be performed January 13 - 29, 2023.
In The Night Ocean, a man returns to the community he grew up in to execute his mother’s estate. While reconnecting with an old lover, learning more about his father’s bizarre religious beliefs, and wrestling with his complicated feelings about coming home, he finds a web of disappearances and murders that hint at a secret that could destroy much more than one isolated seaside town.
Auditions will consist of selections from the script. Sign-up is not necessary but is welcome. They will be held from 6pm to 8pm at The Next Us Workspace (525 N. Cascade Ave).
Online auditions will also be accepted until October 25, 2022.
We're looking for actors to play the following roles, but due to the nature of the show, actors should be prepared to play multiple characters. Counterweight is a not-for-profit company, and all roles are unpaid volunteer positions.
Russell, late 20s-mid 40s. An academic.
Reverend Marsh, late 40s-early 70s. Severe but charming. Russell and Dannie’s father.
Dannie, mid 20s-mid 30s. Russell’s sister and the Reverend’s daughter. Trying to keep this family together.
Mike, late 20s-mid 40s. Divorced, drives a tow truck. Has very important memories of time with Russell.
Jake, mid 20s-late 30s. Married to Dannie. Mostly hapless.
The Sheriff, mid 30s-mid 60s. Suspicious of outsiders, but suspicious of most of the people in Rivermouth, too.
Julia, 18-mid 20s. Works at a liquor store. Is not part of whatever scary stuff is happening in Rivermouth.
Assorted smaller roles. Ensemble will create the world of Rivermouth around Russell as both the people of Rivermouth and some less/more than human residents of the area. Some ensemble members will perform some basic puppetry.
